October 27-31, 2014     Red Ribbon Week!

Announcements:

  • The 50th day of school will be October 28th. We will dress in 50's attire on this day to celebrate!
  • Please check your Red Ribbon Week note for daily themes. 
  • Please remember to try to do math homework on the day of or after I have taught the lesson. This will really help when doing math homework. 
  • If you would like to send Halloween treats or candy on Friday that is fine with me. We won't be having a party, but I do have some fun things planned. Also, the students are NOT allowed to wear costumes on Friday.

Annoucements:

  • We will completing our common core unit, "Alphabet Books and the Children who Read Them."
  • We will also be doing some apple activities this week in class. If you could send an apple of your child's choice this week, that would be great!

Tuesday- Lesson 2.5- Compare pictorial groups to show meaning of subtraction.
Wednesday-Lesson 2.6- Model and compare groups to show meaning of subtraction.
Thursday- Comparing to understand the meaning of subtraction. Play the Different Game.
Friday- Take Mid-Chapter Quiz

Reading/Sight Words:
Be sure to check your child's folder each night for reading homework. 

Sight Words:  out, be, as, have, go, we, am, then, little, down (They just need to be able to read these words to me.)

Tuesday- Lesson 1.5- Use and understand the additive identity property. (5+0=5, 0+2=2)

  • We will be continuing our first common core unit, Alphabet Books and the Children Who Read Them."
  • Please make sure to initial your child's behavior calendar each night and return the folder the next day.
  • Primary Fall Picture will be on Thursday, September 4th.
Spelling/Phonics:
We will not be having a spelling list for this week. We will be reviewing short vowels (example: cat, dog, hop, rip, etc.)
On Friday, we will have a spelling test over short vowel words. It's not for a grade, so don't let your babies get stressed.

Math:
Monday- Lesson 1.1- Use pictures to add to.
Tuesday- Lesson 1.2-Use concrete objects for "adding to."
Wednesday- Lesson 1.3- Use concrete objects to put together.
Thursday- Lesson 1.4- Using adding to and putting together.
Friday- Addition math game

Reading:
This week I will continue doing some individual testing. I hope to practice Daily 5 centers on Thursday and Friday. My goal is to have centers up and running the following week. A few people have asked about the reading log. When we start reading groups, I will be assigning reading homework. I don't mind if you write down your own stories also, but I would like them to be stories that your child can read to you.

  • We will be continuing our Common Core Unit, Life Lessons. We will be focusing on how stories can teach us life lessons. This week the focus is on cooperation.
  • Next week there will be no newsletter because we will have learning camp. The students will go to different classrooms in our pod to do activities.
  • Our Christmas party is on Thursday, December 19th at 2:00.
